Setting up your marketing groups

Marketing groups are central to creating email sendouts with variants for different countries (and, optionally, different languages within those countries). You set up marketing groups in the Config Hub area of your Customer Engagement environment.

You can access Config Hub through the Administration button (the cog icon) in your Customer Engagement UI. If you can't see it, contact Voyado support to have it activated.

Create a marketing group

Before you add any marketing groups, a group named Default already exists. This group contains the contacts that aren't assigned to any other group (which, when you haven't made any groups manually, means all of them). You can't remove the Default group.

To create a marketing group, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Marketing Groups page in your Customer Engagement environment.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of Manage marketing groups and click Create. The page for setting up your new marketing group opens.

Name: Enter a clear, easy-to-understand name, for example Finland: Swedish.

Description: Add extra information, for example Swedish speakers in Finland.

Country: This value is required. A contact is part of this marketing group if they're from this country (or one of the countries you specify, if there are several) and they haven't been placed in another marketing group with a higher priority.

Language: This value is optional and applies to contacts in the selected country who use this language. Use it if you need language-based variants for the same country.

Make sure the lang contact attribute is populated for your contacts, because we use it to sort contacts by language into marketing groups. Only contacts with a value in this attribute can be sorted. If you use the Language field to create a marketing group and you're not sure the attribute is populated, the marketing group can end up too small or empty. Learn more about the lang contact field.

Priority: If a contact could belong to more than one marketing group, we use the group with the highest priority to send them the correct variant of an email. A priority value of 1 is the highest possible priority.

Time zone: This setting makes sure an email goes out at the right time. For example, if you schedule an email for 8 am, it's sent at 8 am in the recipient's local time.

Language for translation and regional formatting: The locale to use for Bonnie translations, as well as for formatting numbers, dates, and prices.

Custom price formatting: If the standard formats don't cover your needs, you can create a custom price format here. This marketing group uses it when you select it as the format for a price in the Design Studio.

Base URL for links: Use this if your site has the same URL structure across markets, with a base URL that differs per market and an end path that stays the same. It doesn't work for URLs that are translated for each language.

  • Base URL: https://brans.se/sv/, end path: product/cat/id=11223 (same pattern)
  • Base URL: https://brans.se/sv/, end path: blue_linen_shirt_large (translated URL, so this doesn't work)

Product feed: Select one of your configured product feeds to use for this marketing group. If you want to add a feed you haven't used before, click Create new product feed and enter the correct locale and URL.

If you're using Rating & Reviews, you'll also see additional settings for Site language.
If you're using Product Discovery, you may also see additional settings for Manage settings for Connected Recommendations. Learn more about Connected Recommendations.

Click Save. Your marketing group appears in the overview.

If you use Base URL for links and Product feed, make sure you configure them for all marketing groups, including the default marketing group.

You return to the overview of your marketing groups, where you can create the next group. When you're ready, learn how to activate your marketing groups.

Changes to marketing groups

Because marketing groups are central to how we handle your contacts for sendouts, make changes sparingly and usually together with your Voyado contact. If you change the country, language, or priority of an active marketing group, a nightly job re-sorts all of your contacts.
