Voyado Engage

Setting up your marketing groups

Marketing groups are central in creating email send-outs that will have variants for different countries (and, optionally, different languages inside those countries). Marketing groups are set up in the Configure Engage area of your Engage environment.

The Configure Engage area can be accessed through the Administration button (the one with the cog icon) in your Engage UI. If you can't see it, contact Voyado support to have it activated.

Manage marketing groups in Engage

Creating a marketing group

Before you add any marketing groups, the group named "Default" will already exist. This group contains the contacts that are not assigned to any other group (which, when you haven't made any groups manually, means all of them). The "Default" group cannot be removed.

To create a marketing group, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Marketing Groups page in your Engage environment.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of Manage marketing groups and select Create.
  3. That opens the following page where you will set up your new marketing group.

Edit marketing groups dialog

Name: Make this something clear and easy to understand ("Finland: Swedish").

Description: Extra information ("Swedish speakers in Finland")

Country: This value is required. A contact will be considered part of this marketing group if they are from this country (or one of the countries specified, if there are several) AND they have not been been placed in another marketing group with a higher priority.

Language: This value is optional and picks out the group of users in the selected country that use this particular language. You can use this if language-based variants are needed for the same country.

Sorting users by language into marketing groups uses the "lang" contact attribute. You must be sure that this is populated for your users since only those with a value in this contact attribute can be sorted. Using the Language field to create a marketing group when you are not sure about this can result in marketing groups being too small or empty. Read about "lang" here.

Marketing groups settings

Priority: When deciding which marketing group a contact belongs to, in order to send them the correct variant of an email, the group with the highest priority (the lowest priority number) will be used. Note that a priority value of 1 denotes the highest possible priority.

Time zone: This is important for a marketing group as it ensures the email will be sent at the correct time. For example, if the email is scheduled to go out at 8 in the morning, this setting ensures it happens at 8:00 in the recipient's local time.

Number, date and price formatting: The locale to use for formatting numbers, dates and prices.

additional settings for marketing groups

Custom price formatting: If the standard formats don't cover your situation, you can create a custom price formatting here that this marketing group will use if it is selected as format for a price in the Design Studio.

Product feed: Select one of your configured product feeds to use for this marketing group. If you want to add a feed that you haven't used before, select Create new product feed and enter the correct locale and URL.

Once everything is entered, press Save, and your marketing group will appear.

Changes to marketing groups

Since marketing groups are such a central component of how your contacts are handled for email send-outs, changes to them will be done sparingly, and usually in conjunction with your Voyado PM. Any changes to your marketing groups will trigger a nightly job where all of your contacts will get resorted.
