Synchronizing with TikTok custom audience

Engage's connection with TikTok Custom Audiences can be used to target your communication directly on TikTok's ad platform.

The synchronization between Engage and TikTok is based on hashed contact information:

  • Email address
  • Phone number

These details are hashed before being sent to TikTok, ensuring secure data transfer.

The segments need at least 1,000 matching TikTok profiles to be eligible for synchronization.

How to sync a segment from Engage

Synchronizing a segment with TikTok is very simple. Follow these steps:

Step 1 – Add a TikTok Ad Account

  1. Go to Online Ads under the Targeting tab in Engage.
  2. Click Ad Accounts.
  3. Choose to add a new TikTok account.
  4. You will be redirected to TikTok to log in and authorize the connection.

Step 2 – Create External Audiences

  1. Go to Online Ads > External Audiences.
  2. Click New External Audience in the top right corner.
  3. Select the segment or target audience you want to sync.
  4. Choose the TikTok ad account from the dropdown of connected accounts.
  5. Enter a name for your External Audience.

You will see when the selected segment was last calculated and how many contacts were included. As segment membership changes, these numbers will update automatically on recalculation.

Step 3 – Use your TikTok audience

After synchronization (typically completed within 24 hours), your external audience will be available directly in your TikTok Ads Manager.

From there, you can create campaigns, select your audience, set budgets, and manage content as usual.

Synchronization statuses

You will see one of several statuses for each External Audience:

  • Waiting for first synchronization: Audience is configured but not yet synced.
  • Synchronized: Audience has been successfully synchronized and is available in TikTok.
  • Failed to calculate segmentation: Engage could not calculate the underlying segment.
  • An error occurred while retrieving data from provider: TikTok returned an error during synchronization.
  • Segmentation removed from Engage: The original segment was deleted, preventing ongoing sync.
  • Failed to synchronize segmentation: A general failure occurred during synchronization to TikTok.
