Sender details

As well as deciding the visual content of your email, Design Studio is also where you adjust several settings needed for the email sendout. These settings can be localized for each marketing group if needed.

It's highly recommended that you set up sender details in your template. Since these rarely change, they'll then be pre-filled for your sendouts.

To be able to send your email, it needs to have a valid sender. You fill in the sender name in the canvas, while other details are in the panel on the right, which appears when you select Sender details.

Before adding the sender, make sure the domain is verified and sender addresses are configured in your Engage configuration.

  • Enter the Sender name. This is the name visible as the sender in the inbox.
  • Select the Sender address.
  • Optionally, add a separate Reply address if it's different from the sender address. A reply-to address doesn't need to be verified. Insert a complete email address.

The sender name can be personalized and localized if needed, for example when it needs to include something country-specific or local like the store name.

The Sender names settings in the Configure Engage area only apply to classic email sendouts.

Engage can automatically decorate all links in the email with your URL parameters, such as UTM tags or other parameters used for site tracking. Note that the parameters won't be applied in test emails.

Add parameters for link tracking by specifying key and value pairs like in the example:

Values can be personalized and, if needed, also localized. For example, you can add the sendout name in the utm_campaign parameter and it will be automatically pre-filled at sending.

Engage online tracking and soft login parameters don't need to be configured here.

Want to localize your UTM tags?

If you'd like to create a unique utm_campaign per marketing group, here are two suggested approaches:

  • Use Marketing group locale – Add the personalization tag for Marketing group locale in Design Studio. This will dynamically populate the UTM parameter with the locale of the marketing group. • Use the localization option – Go through your marketing groups and add a static, localized string to the sendout name for each group. Link tracking dialog showing a static localized string added to the utm_campaign value field

Subject line

The subject line and preview text are also added in the canvas, below the sender name.

Both fields support personalization and can also be localized.

When using personalization, make sure the subject line also has fallback values, as emails can't be sent without a subject in Engage.

Conditional subject lines are added using the + button below the element in the canvas. They can be duplicated, deleted, and hidden just like other elements in the canvas. Use the display condition setting to define the criteria for when a subject line should be shown.

As an email can only have one subject line, display conditions are evaluated in order, and the first condition met is shown to the recipient.

The last subject line in the list can't be moved or deleted. It acts as the fallback if none of the display conditions are met.

If no display condition criteria are added, the subject line will be shown to all recipients, even if there are other subject lines listed below it.
