Before you send your email to customers, you should first preview it to make sure that the layout and content are correct, including dynamic content. When that is done, you can send a test email to up to five email addresses to confirm that everything looks as you want it. Here's how to do that.
Preview your content
- Choose Preview with data (the icon to the left of the pen icon). This will populate any content in your email that is using external data sources (although not data sources that come from trigger data)
- Now examine your layout and confirm that it looks correct on both desktop and mobile using the Desktop and Mobile buttons
- If you’re using personalized fields, you can choose a test contact to use to populate those fields using the Preview as a contact icon (the pen). Once you've chosen a contact they will continue to be used in the preview until you pick another one, even if you turn Preview with data off and on again.
- To pick the contact to be used for previewing personalized fields, click the pen icon to open the Find contact panel. Search for a contact here using the attributes available. Select that contact and the panel will close and the personalized fields in your email will now be filled out.
In the image below, you can see how it looks after the preview contact was chosen. Their first name (John) is displayed in the firstName field, and the other content is correctly filtered.
Doing a test sendout
Select Send test message in the top bar (the paper plane icon) and then enter up to five email addresses. If you have configured a test contact for your email as described above, your test email will be displayed from the perspective of that test contact, using their data. Otherwise the system will use dummy data (from a fake user named "John Doe").
You will have to also fill in email subject and sender to allow the mail to be sent. Note that UTM tags will not be applied to your test email, so as not to affect the analytics.
