Actions turn the wallet pass into an active sales channel rather than a passive card.
Since the pass gets opened regularly - every time a member pays, checks their points, or taps a push notification - Actions put your most important message right there, one tap away, without requiring members to open an app or search for a link elsewhere.
Actions appear as buttons on or below the wallet pass. They give members a direct, one-tap path to the most relevant next step.
Actions are configured in Design Studio on the wallet card design page. Publishing the card pushes updated links to all active cards automatically.
How it works
Below the pass, there is an Actions section where you can add and configure the buttons. Each pass can have multiple actions added next to each other. When adding an action, you can choose from:
- iOS App — Add deep links directly into your iOS app
- Android App — Add deep links directly into your Android app
- Link action — Opens a URL with a specific action type selected for iOS
- Call action — Triggers a phone call to a specified number
Configuring a Link action
When you add a Link action, the following fields are available:
Link
The destination URL the action opens. This is the field the button links to when tapped.
Action type (iOS)
Select the type of action to display on iOS. Options include actions such as Shop Online or In-App, which determines the pre-defined button design and label shown on the pass in Apple Wallet.
Display text (Android)
Since Android does not use the same predefined action types as iOS, you provide your own display text for the button. There is a maximum of 30 characters.
Available action types (iOS)
- Shop Online or In-App
- View Membership Benefits
- View Offers and Rewards
- Book an Appointment
Each action type has a predefined button design and label set by Apple. You select the action type and provide the destination URL, and the button appearance on iOS is handled automatically.
For iOS you can have one or two link buttons available, and for Android only one.
Configuring a Call action
A Call action triggers a phone call directly from the wallet card. Provide the phone number to call when the member taps the action.
Configuring App actions
iOS App and Android App actions deep link directly into your app rather than opening a URL in a browser. Use these when you want the Featured Action to open a specific screen or destination within your own app instead of a website.
Best practices
- Add actions that reflect your most important commercial moment or member need — for example Shop Online or In-App during a campaign period, or View Membership Benefits as a permanent action
- Update the Link field to reflect your current campaign, and revert it once the campaign ends
- Since Display text on Android is free text with a 30-character limit, keep it short and action-oriented — for example "Shop now" or "View rewards"
- Coordinate Featured Action updates with your push notification schedule so the button already reflects the campaign when a member opens their card after tapping a push
