A newsletter signup is an onsite message that asks visitors for their email address, often in exchange for a discount. It's one of the most common ways to grow your list of contacts. This article walks you through creating one, from choosing the template to publishing it.
Create the message
- Go to Onsite > Messages (New) and select Create message.
- Select Newsletter signup.
- Enter a Name, for example "Spring newsletter signup", and choose the Site the message should run on.
- Select Create. The message opens in the editor as a draft.
The flow starts with three steps:
- Minimized (the small widget on the page)
- Form (the signup form)
- Message (the confirmation that's shown after the visitor signs up)
Design the form
- Hover over the Form step and select the pen icon to open the design view.
- Replace the template's text with your own. Make the incentive clear in the header, for example "Get 10% off your first order".
- In the layers list, expand Form fields. Only Email is shown by default. Keep it that way for a newsletter signup, since a short form is easier to fill in.
- Expand Consents and show the consent the visitor needs to give, for example to receive email.
- Select Minimized and Message in the step tabs at the top, and update their text and design too.
To learn more about the design options, see Design an onsite message.
Check the template's default text on every step. Some of it is written for other types of messages and needs to be replaced before you publish.
Add a reward and a confirmation email
If you offer an incentive, set it up in the settings panel on the left:
- Turn on Reward and choose the reward type, such as a Static code or Unique codes. Then select Save.
- Turn on Sendouts and select Enable confirmation sendout to send the visitor a confirmation email. You can also add reminder emails. Then select Save.
Choose who sees the message and when
- In Display conditions, add any criteria you need. For example, show the signup only to visitors who aren't contacts yet, or only on certain pages.
- In Scheduling, set the Start date. Leave the End date empty if the signup should run until further notice.

Preview and publish
- Select Preview and open the message on your website. Click through each step to check the flow on both mobile and desktop.
- When everything works, select Schedule, or select the arrow next to it and choose Publish now.
