Every onsite message has three groups of settings that apply to the whole message: general settings, display conditions, and scheduling. Together they decide where the message runs, who sees it, and when it's shown. This article describes each setting so you know what to fill in and what you can leave as it is.
Open the settings
Open a message from Onsite > Messages (New). The settings are in the panel on the left of the editor. Select Edit next to General settings, Display conditions, or Scheduling to open them, and select Save when you're done. A green check next to a group shows that it's configured.
Settings marked as optional, and everything under More settings, aren't required for your message to work. Leave them as they are unless you have a specific reason to change them.
If the message is live, you'll see This flow is live. Pause it before making edits. Select Pause to edit to make changes.
General settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | The name of the message in your message list. Visitors don't see it. |
| Site | The website the message runs on. Sites are set up in Administration > Config Hub > Onsite messaging > Sites. |
| Language | The language of the message. It's set from the site's settings, but you can change it. Suggested default texts, button labels, and other elements are shown in the language you choose. |
| Script tag (optional) | Connects the message to a script call on your website. Choose Preset to pick cornerwidget, checkout, or login, or choose Custom to enter your own tag. To learn more, see Understanding script tags. |
| Linked landing page URL (optional) | The page on your website that the message belongs to. The message can still be shown on other pages, but this is where visitors are sent from the message's link and from confirmation and reminder sendouts. |
| Onsite message URL | A link to the message. It appears once the message has been published. |
| Dismissal time (days) (optional) | The number of days the message isn't shown again to a visitor who has completed it on the same device. This stops visitors from seeing the same message over and over. |
| Specific attribution time (days) (optional, under More settings) | The number of days during which conversions are attributed to the message in reports. The default is 30 days. |
Display conditions
Display conditions decide which visitors can see the message. Without any criteria, the message can be shown to all visitors on the site.
Add criteria
- In Display conditions, choose whether visitors must match All or Any of the criteria.
- Select Add criteria and choose a criterion from the list.
- Choose an operator and enter a value. For example, for URL you can choose Contains, Does Not Contain, Match, or Does Not Match, and then enter a URL or pattern. Select Add value to add more than one value.
- Select OK to add the criterion, and repeat for any other criteria you need.
- Select Save.
Use Sort to change the order of your criteria, or Clear all criteria to start over.
Available criteria
| Based on | Criteria |
|---|---|
| Data in Voyado Engage | Engage contact/member, Engage contact card field, Engage consent, Engage multichannel promotion, Engage points, and Engage reward voucher |
| The page and how the visitor got there | URL, URL path, Landing page URL, and Referer |
| Other onsite messages | No other onsite message completed in session and Message with script tag has been completed |
| Data on your website | Cookie, Local/Session storage, CSS selector, Prefill data, and User |
Keep your criteria as simple as you can. Every criterion you add makes the audience smaller and the setup harder to troubleshoot.
Session settings
Turn on Only listen to first script call of the session to react only to the first script call during a visitor's session.
Contact/member conditions
Under More settings > Contact/member conditions, you can decide how the message treats people who are already contacts or members:
- Allow existing contacts/members to successfully complete onsite message flow
- Allow existing contacts/members who give a missing marketing preference
- Update marketing preferences for existing contacts/members
Priority and other display settings
Under More settings > Display conditions:
- Never display the onsite message: stops the message from being shown.
- Priority setting (optional): if more than one message matches all the criteria, they're randomly A/B tested. Priority gives one message precedence over the others. A higher number means a higher priority. The default is 0.
- Only display to contacts/members missing information or marketing preferences: shows the message only to people who still have information or preferences to fill in.
To see how display conditions, script tags, priority, and A/B testing work together, see How a message is selected.
Scheduling
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Start date | The date and time the message becomes active. |
| Pause from (optional) | The date and time to pause the message. While it's paused, new visitors don't see the message, but existing links and reminders still work. |
| Pause to (optional) | The date and time to resume the message. |
| End date (optional) | The date and time the message expires and stops showing. Leave it empty to keep the message running. |
To remove a scheduled pause, select Clear pause settings.
For time-limited campaigns, always set an end date so the message stops automatically.
Optional features
Below the settings, you can turn on extra features for the message. When you turn on Reward or Sendouts, its settings open so you can set it up. Select Save to keep the feature on, or Cancel to turn it off again.
- Reward: give visitors an incentive when they complete the message, such as a static code, unique codes, a multichannel promotion, or bonus points.
- Sendouts: send a confirmation email and up to two reminder emails.
- Referrals: let visitors share the message and invite their friends through channels such as WhatsApp, Messenger, email, or a shareable link.
