Publishing your email

The Design Studio has a function to Publish once you have finished an email design. This allows you to control when an email is ready to be sent to your customers.

While you are working on your email, you do not need to save your progress. All new changes are autosaved, indicated by the autosave symbol in the top navigation bar. If you wish to exit the Design Studio before you have finished an email design, you can just click on the x in the right‑hand corner of the top navigation bar. When you re‑enter the design studio, you can then continue where you left off.

Deciding to publish

When you have completely finished your design, including having:

  1. customized all your localized variants,
  2. tested your design by sending your test emails, and
  3. made any corrections needed based on your test emails,

you are ready to use the Publish function. A published email will let Engage know that the email is no longer in draft mode and is ready to be sent out to customers.

Once you publish an email, this version of the email will be used for any sendouts until you publish a new version. For example, if you are making a welcome automation email for your customers, it's likely that you will want to update and improve the email over time. If you make changes to an email used in an active automation, the changes you make will not be sent out in the automation flow until you use Publish again.

For a manual sendout, you will see a green tick on the Design tab once you have published your email design, to indicate that it is published and ready to be scheduled or sent.

Revert to the latest published version

Once you have published your email design, a new option will become available. You can now choose the dropdown option on the Publish button and either:

  1. publish a new version of your email design, or
  2. revert the email to the latest published version.

Publishing a template

Publishing a template works similarly to publishing an email design for a sendout. Once you have published a template, you can select it as a base design when you create a new sendout. The most recently published version of a template will always be used for new emails. Hence, if you make changes within a template, these will not affect the template design for new sendouts until you publish the template design again with the new changes.

When you select a template for a new sendout, a copy of the template is created and added to the Design Studio canvas for the new sendout. This copy is now detached from the template itself. Hence, previous sendouts that have used a template as a base for their designs will never be affected by a new published version of a template.
