With Engage’s Challenges feature, you can now automatically enroll contacts into a challenge through automation, making it easier than ever to create targeted, seamless engagement flows. This article shows you how to use the activity Enroll in challenge to opt contacts into a challenge based on behavior or other automated triggers.
Let’s look at how to enroll a customer into a challenge when they click a link in an email—ideal for encouraging direct opt-in to a promotion or loyalty activity.

Set up the automation
- Start by creating and activating a new challenge. The toggle contact approval is not required for this activity to work.
- Create a new automation and choose a suitable trigger, such as Clicked link in email, New in target audience, or New specific interaction. Adjust the automation name and entry criteria as needed.
- Click the plus sign below the entry trigger, select Activity, and choose Enroll in challenge.
- Select the relevant challenge from the drop-down menu. This activity supports all challenges regardless of approval settings. Confirm your selection by clicking OK.
Once a contact enters the flow and meets the criteria, they’ll automatically be enrolled in the selected challenge.
