Automated emails

Emails sent using automation help you stay connected with your customers at the right tim without needing to manually trigger each message. The new Design Studio allows you to create smart, localized automations using a single email that supports multiple markets. You can automatically welcome new members, send post-purchase updates, or build entire loyalty journeys based on automations. You can also track performance for each market variant so you know what’s working and where.

How it works

In automation flows, you can add a "Send email sendout" activity. Engage will automatically send the right variant to each contact based on their assigned marketing group. You no longer need to create a separate flow or email activity for each market. This simplifies setup, reduces duplication, and helps you maintain brand consistency across markets.

How to send the right variant to each contact

There are two typical scenarios you might encounter:

1. The contact already has a Marketing Group

In this case, Engage will use that group to select the correct email variant—no extra setup needed.

2. The contact won’t receive a Marketing Group at all

In some automations—such as transactional flows—you might work with temporary contacts that don’t get fully profiled. In this case use value splits to route contacts to specific variants manually. In the Send email sendout activity toogle on Send specific variant and select the variant to send.

Setting it up

  1. Create a automation sendout in the Design studio and localize it for each marketing group.
  2. When done editing publish your email. The latest publish version will be sent in the automation.
  3. In your automation flow, add an Send email sendout activity and select the email.
  4. Engage will display how many variants are connected to the email.
  5. When a contact reaches this step, Engage will send the variant that matches their marketing group.
  6. If you need more control, use value splits to route contacts to specific variants manually in the Send email sendout activity.

How to follow up on performance

  • Reports now show performance per variant, so you can compare how your automated emails perform across markets.
  • Each email activity displays the associated marketing group in the results.
  • You can filter by group in the report views to drill down on specific regions or languages.
  • In the automation overview, multi-market emails are listed in their own tab to help you track them separately.

Prerequisites

Before working with automated emails in the new editor, make sure:

  • Marketing Groups are set up and active
  • You’ve built at least one Automation sendout using templates and modules
  • Any automations you plan to update are mapped and ready for email replacement
